Why I’m Offering This Webinar
Over the years, one of the most common things I've heard from families is:
"I wish we'd known sooner."
Not because an earlier diagnosis changes everything, but because understanding changes everything.
When we understand what may be happening, fear often gives way to compassion. Frustration becomes patience. Confusion begins to make sense.
A little over a week ago, I said goodbye to the love of my life, Doug, after a thirteen-year journey with, “mixed” dementia. Mixed because he had vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s. There are over 100+ types of dementia. See, you’re learning already.
I plan to honor Doug in a personal way rather than a traditional service. As Doug would have been celebrating his 80th birthday this November, many of his dearest friends are also at a stage in life where travel isn't as easy as it once was. Rather than asking them to come to me, I've decided to go to them.
Over the coming months, I'll be traveling with Doug and our furry kiddos from Galt, Ontario, where he was born, through Canada to Blaine, Washington, where his family entered the United States, and then on to California and the places that helped shape the remarkable man I was blessed to love for more than thirty-three years. I look forward to meeting a few classmates of his in person.
Along the way, I'll spend time with family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and memories. I'll also scatter a small portion of Doug's ashes in places that held special meaning to him, to us, and to the life we built together.
In lieu of flowers, I invite you to honor Doug's memory by taking an hour to learn about dementia.
This webinar is dedicated to Doug's memory and to every family either at the beginning their dementia journey or already on it.
Although the webinar is offered in Doug's memory, its focus is on providing practical, compassionate education. My hope is that you'll leave with a better understanding of dementia, greater confidence, and reassurance that you are not alone.
Whether you're noticing changes in a spouse, parent, family member, friend, or even yourself, this webinar will help you better understand the difference between typical age-related changes and those that may indicate dementia.
Helping families through teaching or individual guidance has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. Continuing that work now feels like the most meaningful way I can honor Doug's legacy.
I'd be honored to have you join me.
Hugs and Love,
Debbi
